About Ask Italian Restaurants
Ask Italian is a chain of UK restaurants that specialises in casual Italian dining. There are currently 112 Ask Italian restaurants across the UK. The restaurant chain was founded in 1993 by two brothers, Adam and Samuel Kaye, and the name Ask is taken from their initials. The Kayes no longer own the brand, which is currently managed by Azzuri Restaurants Ltd. Ask then rebranded in 2010, taking on it's current and more will known name, ASK Italian.
The initials ASK also stand for Authentic Sicilian Kitchen. ASK Italian aims to recreate an authentic Italian experience with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere and a menu that offers a wide choice of classic and modern Italian pizza and pasta dishes. While ASK Italian is aimed at casual dining customers looking for good food at affordable prices, meals are prepared on site by trained chefs, and the popular restaurant chain convention of microwaving centrally prepared dishes is shunned. Staff are regularly sent on training trips to Italy and the provenance of the Italian-sourced ingredients is a selling point of the restaurants.
In 2010 Theo Randall was taken on as a consultant, or 'expert friend,' and later as an investor. Randall is an acclaimed chef who has been involved in developing dishes, training chefs and marketing ASK Italian. He earned a Michelin star at The River Café and now specialises in Italian cooking; his Intercontinental London Park Lane restaurant has won the title of 'Italian Restaurant of the Year'. Carla Capalbo is another Italian food and wine 'expert friend.' She advised Ask Italian on their drinks menu of all-Italian wines and beers, and also co-authored the ASK Italian Cookbook with Theo Randall, which contains over 100 authentic recipes.
Proceeds from the book's sale go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, which ASK Italian also supports with regular fundraising events.
